1) Housework: If you live in the same house as the person it is a really nice gesture to clean up the house. You can do this two ways. You can clean bits and pieces of the household for a week and then on the final day of the event do a bit more than usual, or you can clear the person out for a bit and clean while they are gone. If you have someone else you can combine this with number three. One person takes the person to a park while the other person cleans up the house.
2) Poetry: This is especially good for someone you are in a relationship in. Some might find this complicated, but it is well worth the effort. If you have trouble writing poetry just copy out poetry that you thinks sounds good on some paper. To make the gift look more fancy hole punch the pages and then run some pretty string through the holes and tie them in bows. Now it looks like you are giving them an actual poetry book. If you have the time try adding a title page or laminating the pages.
3) A Day Out: Going out does not need to be expensive. Pack a lunch and go trail walking. For a more special walk combine this with number five. Put clues throughout the park and help the person navigate between clues to find your picnic spot. Getting out of the house is always great so this is a nice event, however not all people consider this a present so bring a card as well.
4) Award: There are many reasons why we like the friends we have. To make your friend feel special make an award that says why they are special. All you have to do is put a title at the top that lists something they are good at then fill in the extra space with descriptions and pictures. If you feel adventurous try making an actual trophy to go with it. For a pedestal just fold paper in a rectangle, tape it together, and place something on top that kind of makes sense with the award. For example I gave someone the cheesiest writer award and I put a cheese on top.
5) Scavenger Hunt: This takes a lot of effort and time, you have been forewarned. First off you have to pick the places where you want the person to go, maybe make up a map for the area the clues will be in. Next you have to make the clues that are a little tricky so as to make it fun, but not too tricky because that can be frustrating. Just to be cool you could do the clues in rhymes. Also if you have several people you could try having planned activities at each station or do something special at each area you are lead to by the clues. Lastly you could travel to places that meant something to both you and your friend. This is a really sweet idea and I'm sure any girlfriend would love a boyfriend to do this.
6) Coupons: Super cheesy gift, but this is still great. Essentially you write thing on little pieces of paper like, "one free chore" or if you talk a lot like me, "1 hour of silence (can be broken up into 15 minute intervals)". Do some self reflecting and find out what you do that annoys the other person. Try to base the coupons on their interests and dislikes.
7) Why You're Awesome: This was one of the coolest gifts I heard of from my friends. You make a list of reasons why your friend is awesome. You can include specific events or general things like, "your hair is awesome". The number of items on the list can be any amount you want, however I would put their age as the number of cool things you list about them. Try to stay away from too many physical traits and list things about their personality.
8) Cooking: Everyone has to eat, make an occasion out of it. Find out what their favourite dish is and attempt to make it. I would suggest practicing the dish first. Try making something simple you are not be graded at how fancy your dishes are it's the thought that counts.
9) Mix Tape: This is such a cute and somewhat clique gift. If you're good at singing try recording yourself singing the songs. Please do not pirate songs off of the Internet either record your only songs or take them from Cd's you've already bought. You can put either songs that your friend enjoys or songs that make you think of the person.
10) Joke Gift: Take a funny moment that you remember with your friend and make a gift out of that moment. Think back to the beginning of your friendship and think of how you met, or something funny that happened. After you have picked a memorable event think up an object that fits that specific event.
The best gifts are are thoughtful not expensive. Put some effort in and the smile on your friend's face will be worth it.
Business
I'm cutting myself some slack and saying that I'm only eight blogs behind.
Doctor Who
Two quotes from the third doctor.
The Doctor: You know Jo, I sometimes think that military intelligence is a contradiction in terms.
The Doctor: Obviously the Time Lords have programmed the TARDIS always to return to Earth. It seems that I'm some sort of galactic yo-yo!
Would your "clique" gift be a "cliche" gift, by chance? I think the best inexpensive gift would be telling your Mommy every single day how much you love her and that you are never, never, never, never, never going to move away.
